Artist/Filmmaker

Band member of Spunkflakes

Justine Pearsall’s art practice has emerged out of many years of working in both fashion and theatre, before moving into photography and the moving image.

Stemming from a family of filmmakers, musicians and vaudeville performers, her multi-disciplined approach encompasses film, video, photography, sculpture, costume and performance. Keenly interested in popular culture, early film, dance, humour and creating artwork out of food, Pearsall’s work regularly examines the notion of performance.

She muses that it is often the 'flip side' or backstage moments which are the most revealing, when the performer is actually turning away from the audience, in a world of their own. She draws inspiration based upon the peculiarities of the everyday and revels in the absurd. Her moving image work spans across factual documentary, live art documentation and non-fiction video installation.
